"Alaska Air Lines suffered its worst air disaster in January when Flight 261 crashed off the California Coast killing all eighty-eight persons aboard. An investigator who has listened to the cockpit voice recorder reported that during the last nine minutes of the flight, a pastor's wife from Washington can be heard leading the passengers in the sinner's prayer for salvation. The pilot, involved in the crash investigation, also told that the flight data recorder indicated that there is no explanation for the plane remaining in the air for those nine minutes just before its final dive into the Pacific Ocean."
