"I lost my faith over 20 years ago. The Devil kept telling me what rubbish it was and, as a result, I left the church. For the next 12 years I walked alone, in darkness and misery. I followed pop stars and invested in material things, but they only made me feel bereft. Eventually I began to feel that somebody was trying to reach out to me, and I knew it was God.
