While serving in the navy during World War 2 I thought, "What if I died, what will happen to me?" I knew from my mother's teaching that I would go to hell because I had not received Jesus Christ as my Savior. I reasoned, "If I live to be 70, and keep on going the way I am going now, I will go to hell forever. But if I accept the Lord, and there is no heaven or hell, I have lost nothing." So I prayed, "Lord, I want to accept you as my personal Savior. I want to be saved." When I prayed that simple prayer, a huge weight was lifted from me. I originally accepted Jesus because I was afraid of hell, but as I read that Jesus died for me, I fell in love with him and promised to serve Him. I have been serving Him as a pastor for more than 40 years. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16.
