I have been a Christian for 21 years and still I find walking pure and upright very tough at times. I know that Christ tells us to ... fight the good fight of faith I Timothy 6:12 but it just seemed easier to not fight so hard and before I knew it the power of the world had come over me. I was afraid to talk to the Lord because I thought He would turn away. I finally came to a place about 2 months ago where it was either get right with God or lose the battle. I opened up the Word and He spoke to me. I read Psalms 46:1 - God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in the time of need.
