My wife, Shirley, two daughters and I, were missionaries in Mexico when my intestines ruptured. In the ER, everything looked fuzzy. Psalms 23 wandered through my pain-clouded mind. Was I going to die? Twice during surgery, the doctors thought they lost me. Also, they suspected cancer. On day 4, when the doctor removed the packing, I saw a gaping hole from the 10" incision that was left open for medical reasons! On day 5, the evil one came at me with depression. After friends prayed, I heard a voice in my head say, "Prayer doesn't work." I focused on James 4:7. As Satan fled, I reminded him "Prayer does work! I am still living!" My stomach was wide open for 15 days. On day 16, I was in one piece and the lab test showed no cancer. My wife and I were reminded that prayer and faith in God works.
