Hi Don, I started betting on sporting events when I was 19 years old. It was always $50 to $100 a game for the first few years. Around 8 years ago my wagering amounts steadily increased to $500 to $1000 a game. My debts soon ran up to immeasurable amounts & last October, suicidal with $42,000 in debt, cholesterol at 289, my IQ @ 118 & blood pressure at 144/96 I entered Gambler's Anonymous. I've always attended church, new of Jesus' story, liked him a lot, but constantly relied on my own instincts. Self-reliance almost killed me. Last November & December I was in a constant state of penance prayer & trembling fear in the Lord's presence, 'The Good Shepard' came & got me. I had 3 hysterical crying fits in the month of December, as my deeply entrenched sins left me, my sins against the people I'd hurt most, my Mom, my wife, my kids, the church & The Blessed Trinity. It's funny, Jesus' warned early & often about being in the company of hollow men, it turns out I was one of the people he was warning others about. At the end of December, The Messiah sent me a beautiful Christmas gift. He sent me The Holy Spirit, I was lying in bed around 11:00 I started to feel the top of my head tingle, like when your hand falls asleep. For the next 3 weeks I could feel the whole perimeter of my head just above the ears constantly tingling. The Holy Spirit was doing brain surgery on me without leaving any scars !!! God said, 'I'll not give you a spirit of fear, but one of love, power & a sound mind'. Hallelujah !!! Just like in Acts 2, I had a tongue of fire, telling everyone who would listen about the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit was teaching & healing. I was in the presence of Divine Love & true greatness. God was performing a supernatural healing on me, I could not fathom God, the Supreme Being in the entire universe (I'm now crying recounting this) taking the time from his busy schedule to help me. I jumped into reading the New Testament, gearing up for my new life in Christ. In the past year God has swung my finances around by almost $100,000. My debt is gone, my cholesterol is now 186 & my blood pressure is now 134/78. Because of the Holy Spirit, my IQ is now an astounding 141 !!! I now sponser many people in Gambler's Anonymous. My life is completely turned around, I'm an usher at my church & I got a significant job change, thanks be to God, glory to Jesus. I'll give you the three keys to freedom from addiction, 1) Do not be afraid of you habit, demons work on the premise of fear. 2) God will grant a Supernatural Deliverance. 3) It will be little by little, just like the Holy Scriptures tell us. I learned this from one of the World Challenge tapes by Brother David Wilkerson, the founder of Teen Challenge. Other tools that played a significant role in my recovery are: 1) A Life Recovery Bible (12 Step Bible) 2) The 12 Steps for Christians (It is critical to work the steps) 3) 'The Bondage Breaker' by Dr. Neil Anderson, this book helps you overcome, irrational thinking, depression & habitual sins. 4) 'Victory Over the Darkness' by Dr. Neil Anderson, this book helps you realize the power of finding your identity in Christ. ************************************************************************* Don, I hope this testimony helps people, if you know anyone who is in need of God's mercy & forgiveness, many of the resources I mentioned are quite helpful.
