Greetings Sir, On April 14th, 2001, at Meadowridge Baptist, Cape Town Deanna and I will be getting married. As a part of the same service, I will undergo Ordination for full time prison ministry. My name is Colin Garnett, I am the head of Hope Now International Prison Ministry. It is a big title, but in honesty, the novelty of it is wearing thin and the Glory of The Lord is becoming more and more amazing to me. It really is His work and plan. Men women and young offenders responding daily to the wooing of God's Spirit through the preaching of His Word. How lovely it is to see people coming under conviction of sin and receiving Jesus as Lord. I served in 27 English prisons, (2 military) for violence and burglary charges. The violence subsided only when heroin came on the scene for me. The comatose state the drugs brought I believe prevented me killing and/or being killed. Isn't it a sad state, and isn't it equally sad that the more gruesome the story, the more interest it evokes in others. Injecting the ugly brown mixture, with an evil stench to it into my bloodstream 4 or 5 times a day, demanded funds over and above any above average salary. Daily burglaries of peoples homes, t'was awful. The Glorious Lord Jesus made Himself known to me in HMP The Verne, Portland, Dorset, England on 17th June 1993. I opened my heart to Him. In honesty, I opened my heart to Him but expected Him to reject me. I caught a glimpse of His purity and justness, and knew deep within me that He had every right to cast me from His presence. However, I really wanted to apologise for all the hurt I had caused, Him and others. I stood up in the prison chapel this night and held my hand up and tearfully said "I need Jesus". I then climbed into a waste bin of water and was baptised. I came out of the water free Don. It was over, the war was won, or we could say "Tetalestai", ..."it is finished". Restorerd: Family relationships. Restored: Education, I am in my fourth year of a BA Degree in "Applied Theology". Restored: Hope.
