I am a nurse in a busy doctor's office. Ephesians 4:26a came alive for me in July, 2000. We have had a patient for years who has been difficult (at BEST) do deal with. Every time this woman enters the clinic, she has an unpleasant confrontation with someone in the office. On this particular day, she called requesting a service which we provide as a courtesy to our patients to save them a 60+ mile round trip for a 30 minute treatment. When she was told that the specific nurses who administer the treatment, she became angry, and came into the clinic. I knew that this would be unpleasant, so prayed before I walked into the waiting room to speak with her. My prayer asked the Lord to control my tongue, help me stay calm, and that my light for Him would shine forth. I had no idea the depths to which God would answer my prayer!!! The woman became threatening and abusive, and refused to take "no" for an answer. She finally demanded a note written by the doctor stating that we were refusing essential medical care, which was most certainly not the case! After about 30 minutes of this confrontation, I was absolutely furious - to the point that I was shaking from head to toe. I advised her to leave, and when she refused I was quite simply unable to utter a sound! (Talk about the grace of God!!) I was shaking so badly that it was all I could do to pick up the phone & dial 911. The police finally escorted her out of the building, complete with all the necessary records to get her treatment elsewhere! After I got in my car & started home, it hit me the degree to which God had answered my prayer: at no time did I ever utter a word I will regret, nor did I even lose my focus despite the fact that my co-workers were half expecting the woman to physically attack me. This is how serious the confrontation was! I realized that God had given me a great victory over the enemy - who is not this woman, but the enemy of our souls! I began praising God, and singing Amazing Grace. When I came to the verse "Through many dangers, toils and snares..." I started to cry, for I realized how great a danger had been overcome. And altho I doubt this woman recognized His light shining thru me, I KNOW my co-workers did! Don - thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our testimonies!
