BEFORE I was raised in a non-Christ honoring home, where I lived until I graduated from high school in 1968, only to find out that I had a winning lottery number! The only trouble was it was the draft lottery for the Viet Nam war, so after making a careful investiagation into my choices, I decided to join the Army. They had the shortest enlistment time of all the services, besides with all the draftees why would they send me over there? Wrong thought. Where do you think that they sent me, and what kind of unit was I assigned to? To the Nam and an Infantry unit, even though I was trained as a Supply clerk. The interaction with the Infantry men when they came in from the field set my frame of mind. As an escape from the fighting field stress, you had your choice, either go to the club and drink yourself out of the daily grind or smoke yourself to that level. The relief of choice for the Recon platoon 1/28th Infantry was the drug route, so I followed along in an effort to fit in!
But all good things must come to an end, we were sent home as an unit in 1970. After I was discharge, I came back to Indina where I found it hard to fit in with regular people, so I quickly found that I could relate to the drug crowd more so then with the regular people. I moved from the small town where I was living to a medium size city, later to a large city, with each move i progress up the ladder in the drug trade.
HOW Then our Lord stepped in and took over, by allowing me to be in a car accident with friend and the kingping of our smuggling operation. He broke my body and crushed my spirit. But He was not finished me yet. I do remember in a dream where I was floating down a warm stream with others, and we were all laughing until the watercourse started twisting and we could see creatures on the river's bank eyeballing us. One of them looked right at me and laughed, saying, "I got you now!" Then I was plucked up out of the water and was dressed in white." The nurse came in and woke me about this time.
Back to the story: After being dischared from the hospital, the girl with whom I was living with at that time, moved out since she found someone else who could support her lifestyle. My mother then move me close to her residence, and enrolled me in the local Rehab center, man I was a mess! But it was through an individual at the center that I lerned of Christ's love and was born again.
AFTER: I started attending church with my grandmother, the only only believer in my family, until her untimely death. I had some problems with that church becaue what they taught did not agree with with what I had read in my Bible. Like this one pastor told us to rip out the the book of Revaltion and not to reat it at all! I have since found a church home that agrees with the Word! Also, I have graduated from a Bible College and am planning on attending a Seminary this fall. I know that this is too long, but I had a lot to say, I'm really encouraged in reading the testimonies on this web site!
