CHRISTMAS TESTIMONY STORY: On Friday, December 13th, 1968, I was 11, my brother was 14, and I had two sisters 10 + 8. My mother had trusted my brother to babysit for the first time under the supervision of the next door neighbor, in case of any emergency because she had to work. My brother decided to experiment with cigarette smoking and the cigarette fell out of the ashtray onto the mattress. My brother tried to put it out but didn't realize that mattresses rekindle easily. He shut the door trying to hide it from his sisters and told us that we could sleep downstairs and closed off the upstairs so we wouldn't be bothered by the smoke. Well, thank God for my sisters kidney's because she woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and noticed the fire updstairs and got us all out of the house just in time before the roof caved in where we were sleeping. Just the fact the all four of our lives were spared was a miracle in itself. The headlines of the newspaper read "Girl of 10 saves four from Fiery Home". The part I remember most is the outreach of the community. We were staying at my grandmothers small house, the next town over, and I'll never forget Christmas morning, there were droves of cars lined up for what seemed miles, it looked like a caravan, delivering christmas gifts, (clothes, toys, household appliances, EVERYTHING!) for us to start out fresh. There were people from all the local churches, the schools, etc. It seemed like the presents never stopped and we could hardly see each other over the tops of the boxes when it was all said and done. That was a true testimony of the meaning of Christmas, helping out those in need! See if you can find a needy family to help out this CHRISTMAS!
